The Gift That Keeps on Giving

“But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”  -1 Corinthians 6:17; 19-20 (ESV)

First-century Jews believed that heaven and earth came together in the temple and was alive in the Torah which was considered a portable temple. This reminds me of 1 Corinthians 6:17; 19-20 which I quoted above. We, the believers in Jesus Christ, received as a gift of the Holy Spirit. What an amazing gift to have the Spirit of God dwelling in us! He is the Gift that keeps on giving. We do not have to pray to the sky or to an image, for our God is alive and a consuming fire that burns inside us!

Be sure not to let this fire go out!

Knowing that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit is a great reminder that we are the portable temple where heaven and earth meets as we experience the on-going transformation into the holy priest that 1 Peter 2:9 references but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession…

This is what God designed us to be, not only through Christ’s blood but through and with His word. Though we may get discouraged from time to time on this Christian journey, we should not take for granted the personal and intimate access we have and the humble privilege of being chosen, sanctified, and lacking no good thing. By knowing this, it should be a game-changer with how we engage in worship and prayer.

This year 2020 has come with many different challenges, crises, and for some traumatic events. We have seen and heard more than we can bear…but God.

You and I, friends can still choose joy. We can still finish this year stronger than we started. We can still submit to God and resist the devil. We can still be the hands, feet, and mouthpiece for our Lord. Make the decision today to let God fill you up. Let your temple bask in the glory of God. Remember to take care of yourself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Let us sing to the Lord a new song (Psalm 96:1) and worship Him in the splendor of holiness. I do not know about you, but I am encouraged, strengthened, and comforted in knowing that I abide in God and He in me (John 15:5). May we perceive what it really means to know God and live as a living sacrifice. My prayer is that the light of God (Jehovah Ori/Lord my Light) will flood our hearts this Christmas season and that we will encompass the hope that was given to us when God chose us.

How do we heal from the SBC Sexual Assult Scandal?

I want to be a part of the solution, not the cause of more injuries. As a survivor, I understand the fear of the pain when reflecting on the past. News reports of more instances of people experiencing an injustice prick wounds buried deep. It has taken me years to find the courage to speak up about the criminal acts done to me. And it has taken even longer to embrace those pain points and filter them through the blood of Jesus. I by no means am completely healed from these wounds, but I am healing. This journey will be long but worth it.
