Scripture of the Day: 1Samule 17:46a

“This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.”

Have you ever experienced an impossible situation that ended with a remarkable outcome?   David, the king of Israel, had several monumental moments that could only be explained with the presence of God.

Tending his father’s sheep, David saw the power and sovereignty of God in the field. With God, David killed a lion and a bear, who attacked his flock, building his trust in the Lord.  As the bond grew between God and David, the more David relied on God.

In the fight between David and Goliath, the odds were stacked against him.  David was judged by his size and stature.  However, the Israelites and the Philistines forgot David wasn’t alone.

Through these historical stories, God reminds us of who He is and what He can do. Our God is massive compared to our giants.  Man has limitations, but God is limitless.  David indeed killed Goliath, striking him down with one stone, a slingshot, and God’s aim.

For the victory to be won, David had to resist the fear, remember the sovereignty of the Lord, and act in obedience.  David recalls the battles won with God by his side as he pleads his case to the king.  Those milestone memories reinforced David’s confidence in God, equipping him to withstand any doubt, and fully trusting God to spare him again.

When facing our giants, we must resist our fear, recall His continued faithfulness, and respond in obedience.  What milestone memories do we need to remember today as we walk in our faith?

Believe, with God, all things are possible!  God struck down the giant, and He can do it again.
